Each year the Australian Association of Graduate Employers (AAGE) rewards outstanding examples of excellence in the graduate recruitment and development industry through its annual AAGE Graduate Recruitment Industry Awards ("the AGRIAs").

 

The winners of the 2012 AGRIAs were announced at the awards Gala Dinner, which took place on Thursday 15th November 2012 during the AAGE Annual Conference. We would like to thank Testgrid for sponsoring this event.

2012 AAGE 'Lite' Conference: Saver Rates Operating until - Friday 30th November 2012

The AAGE ‘Lite’ Conference is a slimmed down version of the AAGE's Annual Conference. The AAGE 'Lite' Conference is being held in Perth on Tuesday 11 December 2012.

 

We recognise that many of the AAGE's Members based in Western Australia do not always have the budget or time to attend our Annual Conference on the East Coast. To address this, we have decided to offer our WA Members a taste of our Annual Conference through our AAGE 'Lite' Conference.

 

The AAGE ‘Lite’ Conference will include a selection of workshops and speakers from our Annual Conference, providing our WA members with the chance to experience the wealth of knowledge and networking opportunities our Annual Conference has to offer. The Big Meet Careers Fairs - Super Saver Rate Available until 30th November 2012

2013 AAGE Surveys . 

 

Following their launch at the recent AAGE Graduate Recruitment & Development Conference in Melbourne, we are pleased to provide you with an opportunity to purchase the 2013 AAGE Candidate Survey and 2013 AAGE Employer Survey reports.

 

 

The 2013 AAGE Candidate Survey is produced to provide AAGE members with the very latest market information on: candidate applications, job hunting techniques, factors which influence application and offer acceptance decisions, views on best employers in each industry and future plans of candidates with 3,046 new or future employees from 162 organisations taking part between May and September 2012.

Report on AAGE Attendance at New Zealand Conference

 

Ben Reeves and Paul Russell represented the AAGE at the inaugural conference of the New Zealand Association of Graduate Employers (NZAGE) which was held in Auckland on Tuesday 20 November 2012.

The NZAGE was created around 12 months ago. The inspiration for setting up the association came about from New Zealanders attending the AAGE Annual Conference.

The NZAGE is run almost exclusively by volunteers who all have day jobs as graduate recruiters.

 

Conference Facts and Figures

 

A few facts and figures:

  • There were around 80 delegates at the conference. Most of these were employers.
  • There were delegates from 6 NZ universities and a few delegates from suppliers. There were around 10 international delegates from countries including the USA, UK, South Africa and Australia.
  • six exhibitors (including Fusion, GradConnection, Onetest, SHL, Talegent, Testgrid)

 

Conference Structure

 

The conference lasted for one day.

 

There were a mix of sessions delivered by both employers and suppliers including:

  • An Employer Panel
  • A Student Panel
  • An International Panel (which included Ben Reeves)  
  • Leadership workshop
  • Graduate Attraction workshop
  • The results of the NZAGE Employer Survey and Candidate Survey

 

Learning Points

 

Some key learning points:

  • Many of the employer delegates have multiple roles within their organisations. Typically they are HR generalists who have responsibility for graduate recruitment, graduate development as well as a range of other HR matters.
  • The geographical distribution of delegates is far more concentrated than the Australian market. The majority of delegates were from Auckland (which has around a third of the national population) or from Wellington (the location of the national government)
  • NZAGE conducts two surveys of its market each year: an Employer Survey and a Candidate Survey. These Survey Reports are available for purchase.
  • Many of the key issues faced by NZ employers are common to Australia e.g. attraction; competition for the top talent; hiring the same number of graduates with fewer resources; reneging of offers; retention rates etc.
  • New Zealand has eight universities (by comparison Australia has around 40 and the USA has around 2,000)

Employers are invited to participate in the 2012 NAGCAS Annual Conference, being jointly hosted by the five Western Australian Universities: Curtin University, Edith Cowan University, Notre Dame University, Murdoch University and The University of Western Australia. RESEARCH:

Annual Employer Survey - leading annual benchmarking publication, which summarises a range of data provided by Australian employers in relation to their graduate recruitment activities, for example, graduate starting salaries, marketing activities, selection methods, acceptance rates, retention rates, etc. Members have access to a discounted price, and Members who participate receive a complimentary copy.

Annual Candidate Survey - summarises attitudes and opinions from recently offered candidates with respect to various aspects of the graduate recruitment process. Any AAGE Full Member who participates will receive a detailed free report summarising the feedback collected from all candidates who respond.

Annual Graduate Survey - provides in-depth analyses of the attitudes and opinions of recently-recruited graduates towards their employer, their training and their experiences. Any AAGE Full Member who participates receives a free detailed report summarising the feedback collected from all graduates who respond to the Survey.

Annual Intern Survey - assesses feedback and experiences of students who have participated in work experience placement programs. Any AAGE Full Member who participates receives a free detailed report summarising the feedback collected from all interns who respond to the Survey.

Unistats Reports - The current AAGE UniStats Reports provide detailed statistics on the number of students who have started or completed an undergraduate degree course for the five years from 2006 to 2010. The data are broken down by university and degree subject, gender and domestic/international/indigenous, giving AAGE Full Members the ability to identify the number and location of candidates with specific qualifications. Lucy Hood 2012

This month we introduce you to Ms Lucy Hood.

Based in Sydney, Lucy is the Graduate Programs Advisor for Arrium (formerly OneSteel). Within her role she plans and executes the recruitment strategy for all campus hires (graduate, summer, cadetships and scholars), coordinates tactical university relations activities and assists with the running of entry-level talent and leadership programs. A relative newcomer to the graduate recruitment world, she is thoroughly enjoying working in this area and is overwhelmed by the level of passion and support shown by others in the industry. Lucy previously worked in a sports PR, media and events role at a UK university.
